Overview

Gerald Miller Construction performed all civil site work for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) installation in Holtville, CA. This project began with complete site demolition and over-excavation, followed by importing 3,500 cubic yards of material, constructing retaining walls, and completing trenching and slurry backfill. We also built access roads for emergency vehicles and finalized the surface finish of the site.

This multi-phase project required tight coordination with both electrical and concrete contractors to meet demanding scheduling requirements. Additionally, our team worked directly with engineers to adapt CAD drawings on the fly, ensuring that the site layout fit the existing footprint while still meeting strict IID (Imperial Irrigation District) specifications.

Challenges

  • Coordinating multiple phases with electrical and concrete contractors
  • Editing CAD drawings mid-project to accommodate site-specific constraints
  • Meeting tight scheduling windows set by IID requirements
  • Constructing critical access roads for fire trucks within limited space
  • Performing demolition and over-excavation with minimal disruption to surrounding areas
