Overview

Gerald Miller Construction was selected to complete the site preparation for the new Angeles Block facility in Rialto, CA. This large-scale project involved roughly 100,000 cubic yards of mass excavation and grading over 1.2 million square feet. Our team cleared the site, performed rough grading, and began preparation for curb and gutter installation. We also imported 5,000 yards of material and stabilized 900,000 square feet of parking and storage area using soil cement, setting the foundation for future paver installation.

A unique challenge in this project was the excavation and phased backfilling of 30-foot-deep material pits. These pits had to be excavated, partially constructed by the concrete team, then backfilled and regraded in stages to reach the final subgrade. Our crew coordinated each phase precisely, ensuring smooth transitions between construction teams and maintaining the project timeline.

Challenges

  • Managing complex excavation and backfill sequencing for 30-foot-deep material pits
  • Coordinating tightly with the concrete contractor to alternate construction and grading phases
  • Stabilizing 900,000 sq ft of parking/storage area with soil cement under strict timeline constraints
  • Preparing curb grade and gutter areas to exact site specs across a massive footprint
